Butch Alhbrandt

Woodcarver

My name is Carl "Butch" Alhbrandt. I've spent most of my life in construction, so I’m familiar with many aspects of woodworking. When I decided to try my hand at wood carving, I discovered my creative passion. I am committed to the advancement of decorative chip carving as an enjoyable, functional and reasonably priced art form. My carvings range from simple to complex, humorous and sometimes whimsical. I love the challenge of creating custom pieces.

Jody Best

Blacksmith

I make hardware, houseware, garden ornaments, and sculpture, mostly from steel, but sometimes with copper or even a bit of silver now and then. What I make may depend on the type of music I'm listening to. Catfish Keith playing the blues yields very different results than Mozart for the Morning Commute. I've been blacksmithing since 1989 and teach at Touchstone Center for Crafts. I like big dogs, flower gardens and colorful candy. I love my family. I love to run. I believe everyone should develop a skill, support arts, and live a good life.

Carolyn Collen-DuBose

Bookarts, Textiles, Painter

I have been an elementary art teacher for 30 years, and been excited by many different media and techniques. This is my excuse for not focusing on one area! Painting, puppetry, papermaking, collage, dollmaking, knitting, crocheting, felting/needle felting and beading are some of the media I have worked in and sold at shops, shows and to friends in my “free” time. Currently I am working with many different fibers: wool, ribbon, hemp, fleece, and paper. Carolyn Collen-DuBose Hazeltree of the Woods Fibers, Paint and Book Arts

E. Bruce Cornes

Picture Taker

When one travels enough, or parties enough, one often has opportunities to take some rather interesting pictures. The old adage of "The Blind Hog" applies:

Even a blind hog, if it searches long enough, finds an acorn.

Folks, I really do not consider myself  a photographer , I am indeed a picture taker, who takes a lot of pictures. One can do that with digital photography, It's cheap.

DANCING TREES STUDIOS

MARKLEYSBURG, PA., 15459

A mother/daughter collaboration, we work on pieces separately and together. Most pieces are hand built from slabs. Many are then slapped onto trees, pinched, printed or incised in some way. Some work is wheel thrown. We use oxides, stains, underglazes and overglazes on the bisqued clay. The ware is then fired to cone 6 (stoneware temperature). It is food, oven and dishwasher safe. Outdoor sculptural pieces should be taken indoors in freezing conditions.

Lynn T. Fazenbaker

Literary Artist

I am currently working on a YA novel (YA=Young Adult: Ages 12 and up). For over half a decade, I have been networking with other children’s writers via childrens-writers@yahoogroups.com, an online community with over 2000 members; an online critique group including a Newbery Honor Medalist; WPA SCBWI (The Western PA chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators); and various writers’ conferences and retreats. If I cannot personally help you learn grammar, the fiction-writing craft, or the process of publishing in children’s literature, I can connect you with a helpful resource. I can also sing karaoke without first getting drunk, much to the dismay of people with ears. Even drunk people with ears.

Marcy Kalasky

I started making cakes as an idea for Lent. When asked "what did you give up?" my answer was slothing. I was tired of sitting around watching TV every night and decided to try something new. The idea of little cakes actually came from watching Food Network. Self-taught, I found a new talent. To see more samples and contact/purchase information go to:   cakesbymarcy.com

Barbara A. Nolf

I make period clothing for historical presentations. I also fashion decorative pillows using quilting, crotcheting, applique, and embroidery techniques to make them unique. In addition to sewing, I really enjoy storytelling, especially recreating the lives of people who once lived in our area. I make these biographical presentations wearing the clothing I believe the subject would have worn, using old photographs as a guide.

Jan Upton-Lloyd

I love altered art, i.e., assemblages made from “found objects” left by both man and nature, the object becoming the canvas. Inspiration is drawn from dreams, travel, music, film, conversation and memories, among other things.

My goals now are to make things bigger and master the soldering iron. I promise not to go through your trash but may ask to root through your junk drawer!
